Course Description: This course is based upon the work of renowned LDS musician and teacher Michael Ballam. The first seven weeks is an overview of music styles and periods with an exposure to musical history. The LDS perspective on music will help students recognize the differences in musical terms among the music of God, the music of man, and the music of Satan. The power of music to affect the spirit will be demonstrated so that student will be enabled to be discriminating consumers of music. The second seven weeks is an examination of the subliminal effects of music upon the brain and mind, its effects on learning, mood, achievement and relationships. The final 14 weeks of the course present a traditional study of music theory fundamentals that will improve the understanding of the structure of music for all students.
