Parents choose to enroll their students as graded or pass/fail. Graded classes will be included on transcripts of coursework completed and included in cumulative GPA. Pass/Fail classes are listed on the transcripts together with the result obtained by the student, but are not included in the GPA computation. It is important to note that all students in a class, whether graded or non-graded, are required to fully participate in assignments, tests and homework. Non-graded enrollment will be pass/fail, as determined by the teacher. Parents may not waive class work, homework, or tests for their students. For graded enrollment, teachers furnish an outline of expectations and methods for determining the grade, and whether or not extra credit will be available. Teachers have the option to accept late work during the semester. No late work is to be accepted beyond the last day of class each semester except for an extenuating circumstance. (Students must ask for extenuating circumstance status. It is not automatically extended even if the teacher is aware of the circumstance.) Teachers provide students and parents progress reports at the end of each month. Grades are also available on each student’s personal account on our website. Grades will be assigned objectively in accordance with course requirements. Teachers give most assignments and all tests numerical designations, which then guide the teachers in assigning grades. The teacher will give students grades based upon their success in completing course requirements according to the following schedule: Letter Grade GPA Percent A 4.0 95-100 A- 3.67 90-94 B+ 3.33 85-89 B 3.0 80-84 B- 2.67 75-79 C+ 2.33 70-74 C 2.0 65-69 C- 1.67 60-64 D+ 1.33 55-59 D 1.0 50-54 F 0.0 < 50 Ensign Education uses Carnegie Units to measure credits for high school courses. It will generally be necessary for students to spend a minimum of one hour on coursework outside of class for each hour spent in class. Some classes will require more than that amount. The course catalog indicates the number of credits for each course. |
